Know Your Rights
Beneficiary and Family Centered Care National Coordinating Center: 1-855-472-4440
As a Medicare beneficiary, you have a right to:
Receive all of the care necessary for the proper diagnosis and treatment of your illness or injury.
Have your discharge date be determined only by your medical needs and not by Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) or Medicare payment.
Be involved in decisions concerning your healthcare.
Be fully informed about decisions affecting your Medicare coverage and payment of services.
Appeal any written notice regarding non-payment (from the hospital or Medicare) for your care.
Seek assistance from a discharge planner. The hospital discharge planner will work with you and your family members to plan and arrange for care you may need when you leave the hospital.
Review the quality of your care. If you have questions about the quality of care you received or if you feel you were discharged from the hospital too soon, call our beneficiary help line service at 1.800.727.7086.
